Mental Health Services

You can refer yourself to a number of mental health services without having to wait to see your GP. We would, however, recommend making an appointment with your GP to discuss your concerns as well.

Right To Choose

The Right to Choose pathway gives you control over who provides your care. Regarding the Right to Choose pathway, this is something you would need to arrange independently with your chosen clinic. We are unable to advise on which provider to choose, and you will need to carry out your own research when selecting a clinic.

FOR ADHD AND AUTISM

For ADHD and Autism referrals, the clinic will provide you with a questionnaire to complete, which should then be sent across to us via askmyGP. Once this has been done, we can proceed with the referral.

Please be aware that while the Right to Choose pathway may offer a quicker assessment, it is not without its limitations. Diagnoses made by some Right to Choose providers are not always accepted by the NHS. In addition, securing prescribed medication can be challenging, as GP practices do not usually agree to shared care arrangements with these providers. This is due to differences in diagnostic processes and restrictions on NHS doctors prescribing certain medications.

If you are diagnosed through the Right to Choose pathway and the NHS does not accept the diagnosis, the waiting time for reassessment is currently over six years. If the diagnosis is accepted, there is typically a wait of over 12 months for a medication assessment, unless you choose to pay privately for medication.
